Message form the President

The Biotechnology Society of Nepal (BSN), which is the
largest biotechnology Society in Nepal, was established on 2007. This was
established for the development of biotechnology in Nepal under the act of
Nepal Government. This society initially consisted the new biotechnology
graduates in Nepal. Afterwards, concomitant with the development of
biotechnology in Nepal the society covers all the sector of biotechnology in
Nepal i.e. agriculture, microbiology, biochemistry, bioinformatics, biochemical
engineering, molecular sciences. Currently, with the upcoming age of
biotechnology in 21st century, the society will try its best to
include all the latest technology developed in the field of biotechnology.
Talking about the geographical location of the society, the
society is located in the capital city of Nepal, Kathmandu but the society is
planning to spread in the different places inside the country. The society has
the close relation with the Nepal Academy of Science and Technology (NAST),
Nepal Agriculture Research Council (NARC), Kathmandu University Department of
Biotechnology and Everest Biotech. We would like to develop a strong
relationship with All India Biotech Association, European Federation of
Biotechnology, Swiss National Center of Competence in Research (NCCR) and also
in other regions and other centers.
This society will publish Biotechnology Journal of
Biotechnology (BJB) from this year on the regular basis. Another important
activity of society is the annual meeting and different talk programs. The
society is highly active from its very beginning to share the information
related to Biotechnology in Nepal.We
believe that Biotechnology has got the great potential for the development of
our country Nepal and poverty alleviation. Society also likes to focus on the
current research activities done on the field of Biotechnology.
The Society has brought different people; Research Scientists,
Academicians, Professors, Graduates of Biotechnology and students into a
common platform. As Part of first two years Plan, all the members and
biotechnology executive board are determined to make some concrete effort to
achieve some good result to fulfill the goal and objectives of Society.
As a president of BSN, I would like to emphasize again that
we shall make every effort to improve BSN and make it significant source or
Biotechnology related information for the academic and industrial communities.
I also promise that annual society meeting, talk programs will provide more
chance to discuss biotechnology related problems. We have acquired some good experiences from the DNA Day 2008 program,
NAST conference on Science and Technology 2008, Fourth Asian Conference in
Biotechnology, Different workshops organized by Kathmandu University. I
would like to thank the organizers for inviting us in their programs.
As my final comments, I am dedicated to the welfare of biotech
community in Nepal. Your ideas and comments for the society are always
welcome. I sincerely appreciate the understanding and cooperation of
everyone associated with this society.
